SBC Monthly Meeting – 7:00 a.m., Thursday May 14th – Rajkumar Padmawar, President & CEO ASAsoft (Canada) – Manufacturer of Composite Insulators

Hi all,

I hope everyone is enjoying this great stretch of warm sunny weather when you are able to be out and about.  It’s great to be able to attend our SBC meetings in the light of day.

This month continues with our talks focussed more on people, companies and projects of interest in our local community.

I recently visited Raj Padmawar, President & CEO of ASAsoft (Canada) Inc to take a look at an exciting new product (lightweight composite insulator) that the company is introducing into the electricity transmission and distribution markets in Canada.  This product was first introduced in South Asia in 2002 and have over 2 million insulators installed world-wide.  This product is manufactured overseas and, for us, Raj will be talking about this “offshoring” of products with its difficulties and benefits.  His talk will be about:

“Lessons learned: A Canadian SME’s journey from Proof of Concept to Market Ready Product”

ASA has gone through it all.  Raj and Andy Jani (VP and COO) will share their perspective on everything you need to know to put offshoring into practice and ASA’s future growth plan.

Please join us to find out more about ASA and “offshoring” of products.  More info about the company and products can be found at http://lightweightinsulators.com. A summary PDF of ASAsoft can be accessed @ ASAsoft Summary page.

SBC Jan. 8th Mting – Duncan Kenzie, former President and owner, ExcelSystems Software Development Inc.

Happy New Year everyone,

I hope you all had an opportunity to enjoy the holidays and looking forward to the upcoming 2015 New Year!

Our January meeting will complete our series of business topics focussing on succession and exit strategies for entrepreneurs.  This month’s speaker is Duncan Kenzie, former President and owner, ExcelSystems Software Development Inc.  ExcelSystems Software Development Inc., is a software company that specializes in modernization and business intelligence tools for the IBM i server marketplace. Duncan began his career in IT as a Waterloo co-op student in 1977. He founded ExcelSystems in 1985 and built it to 43 employees by the time he sold it to a Boston-based investment banking firm in early 2014.  His topic is “Selling your Business – A Survival Guide”

Duncan will focus on the “process” of this fairly complex deal with 3 parties involved (buyer, seller and distributor) including discussing the importance of sharing information in a timely and accurate manner with the buyers to avoid the “deal killer”!

This should be a very interesting conclusion to our discussion series that has highlighted stories of our local technology sector successes from start-up to exit!
